Busty and the Bass’ new album Forever Never Cares is a record which sounds, at once, of a bygone era and completely modern; the moment you think you know which direction the album is heading, it takes another unexpected turn, but you are always delighted by the eventual destination. The funk-pop single “Starstruck (feat Jordan Brown)” details the journey of straying from one’s innocence before finding your way back. Between Brown’s otherworldly falsetto and the heartfelt expressiveness of Alistair Blu, they too lure you in.
The Deluxe Edition indulges further into Busty and the Bass’ expansive creative journey and genre exploration in the years after Eddie. With alternate versions, demos, and unreleased tracks, the deluxe album showcases their evolving sound. The acoustic version of album favourite “All The Things I Couldn’t Say To You” strips the song back to its core, letting you fully immerse in the lush, triumphant foundation of the track.
For the Canadian-American soul-jazz collective Busty and the Bass, collaboration has always been at the forefront of their music. Formed at McGill University in Montreal over a decade ago, the group is now scattered across four North American cities from coast to coast. Yet, with a collaborative spirit at the heart of their third studio album, Forever Never Cares, the members have never been more connected.
