Born into a large musical family, Sally Seltmann has always had an interest in both the personal lives of others and her own inner workings. These themes run through her two highly acclaimed New Buffalo albums, as well as the albums she released under her own name - 2010’s Heart That’s Pounding, and 2013’s Hey Daydreamer. But when Sally co-wrote a big song for someone else – worldwide hit “1234” for Feist - her path took an unexpected turn. Firstly, she released an album with her band Seeker Lover Keeper, featuring Sarah Blasko and Holly Throsby. Secondly, Sally relocated to Los Angeles, where she began writing songs with and for many different artists. It’s common for people with Bipolar to be fiercely creative, and Sally Seltmann is no exception to this rule. On her return to Australia, she wrote her first novel Lovesome, published by Allen & Unwin in Australia, IPG in Canada and the USA and Atlantic Books in the UK. Sally Seltmann also made another Seeker Lover Keeper album, enjoying a run of successful shows before COVID shut everything down. During this time Sally was also writing songs for what would become her 5th album – Early Moon. She chose to work with her husband Darren Seltmann (a founding member of The Avalanches) for the production, arrangements, and mixing of Early Moon. Given the success of their soundtrack for the award-winning TV show The Letdown, the couple felt it only seemed natural to team up together for this album. Early Moon was recorded in their home studio from March 2020 – June 2021, right through the pandemic. The album itself is a breath of fresh air. Clever lyrics, confessional storytelling and uplifting sentiments – Early Moon is a response to our complex minds and the relationships we build or break. Layered guitars, energetic drum beats, piano, rich harmonies, and synths all combine to create the lush landscape that Sally’s ethereal vocals rule over. “I wanted to make an upbeat album about honouring your emotions - from contentment to regret – about being in pursuit of a peaceful mind, paying tribute to young love and following your heart. I knew that Darren - with his eccentric sensibilities - would bring my songs to life in a luscious, art-school way.”
